Impossible to host National Games in October due to Covid-19: Goa CM Sawant

Current Affairs : Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said that it is beyond the realm of imagination to expect to have the National Games 2020 in October in the state due to Covid-19.

“It is beyond the realm of imagination to expect to have the National Games 2020 in October due to Covid-19. Games that are booked to be held in October this year would need to be deferred uncertainly. The state government would impart to the Union Sports Ministry to pass on to the Indian Olympic Association about Goa’s reluctance to have the occasion in the not so distant future and to delay the occasion considering the viral pandemic,” Sawant told ANI.

He said that Goa is 100 percent prepared to have the national games.

“We are glad to be hosts of the national occasion but since of the Covid-19 pandemic, we need to delay it. In spite of the fact that Goa is a green zone, members from everywhere throughout the nation will be partaking in the National Games,” Sawant expressed.

Inquired as to whether the Goa government would suggest an elective date for the Games to be held, Sawant stated, “We can’t settle on a date right now in light of the fact that the Covid-19 circumstance is liquid.
